October is National Bullying Awareness Month. GCS students who experience or witness bullying can make an anonymous report to school officials using the STOPit web app at https://appweb.stopitsolutions.com/login or by downloading the STOPit app on any mobile device. Links to STOPit and incident reports are available on school and district websites and bookmarked on all student Chromebooks. Teachers and parents can assist students in submitting reports if they are too young to do so themselves. #StopBullying #BeKind

Please remember to join us at 5:30 this evening at EGMS for an informational forum on continuation of the school levy. Continuation of the levy is on the Nov. 8 election ballot.

Since 1993, officials around the world proclaim the third week in October as #CharacterCountsWeek. GCS students learn the importance of developing and demonstrating good character every day through Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship.

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) serves nearly 30 million children every school day. President John F. Kennedy created National School Lunch Week (NSLW) in 1962 to promote the importance of a healthy school lunch in a child’s life and the impact it has inside and outside of the classroom. GCS celebrates #NSLW and the 2022 theme, Peace, Love & School Lunch.

Mrs.Emily and Mrs. Vanessa worked with preschool today on bus safety!
Special thanks to bus driver HL Adkins for helping explain all the safety procedures for our littlest learners.

Reminder: GCS will host two forums to share information on continuation of the school levy. The first forum will be held at WGMS on Monday, Sept. 19 at 5:30 p.m. A second forum will be held at EGMS on Monday, Sept. 26 at 5:30 p.m. Continuation of the school levy is on the Nov. 8 election ballot.

The West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE) is seeking input via a statewide survey on food availability to children during the summer months at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/6Z9SYM9. The brief survey will be made available through the WVDE website from September 15- September 30.

Our new partnership with Greenbrier Valley Aquatic Center will make possible swim & water safety instruction during regular school day Health classes for all GCS 6th grade students who have parental permission. Excited to sign the official MOU at this evening's BOE meeting!

GCS reminds families that students who test positive for COVID-19 should remain in isolation for five full days from first symptoms, then wear a mask for days 6 - 10. Please contact your health care provider as any absence of 3 days or more will require a physician's note. Contacts do not have to quarantine, but if symptoms develop, testing is recommended. To request a free home covid test from our county office, please call 304-647- 6457.

When school starts next week, our elementary schools will welcome the consistent presence of a police officer to help keep students, staff, and facilities safe. On Monday and Tuesday, officers completed intensive school-based tactical training. Today and tomorrow, they are participating in additional specialized training to ensure the success of this proactive partnership effort.
